Alpha 13 Update - Bugs, Visuals and Information Systems
Zirka Dominus » Devlog

- Redid multiple menus to make them look better and incorporate the new theme used by the game
- This was most of the work for the past month, as I redid multiple menus entirely. Many still need to be redone in the future, but the game does look a lot better as the default buttons and default fonts have been replaced in many instances and an idea for a more unified style has been conceived.
- tweaked how land battles happen to give a bigger bonus to defenders
- Created a visualization of battles to replace the old notification system
- Still needs more art, but it is better than the little notification that used to appear
- Started to work on a Fleets panel
- This can be used to check to see if the number of ships the player controls is correct
- Added in new data about planets in the planet overview screen
- info about the planet like days and average temp
- will be used in the future to better determine planet size and productivity
- Also added in more information about planet defense
- Added a lot more information panels to the info screen
- Added in history graphs to the information screen
- Added in information about current progress towards winning to the info panel
- This also shows information about a future diplomatic win condition which is not actually implemented yet
- Added in a better financial breakdown of the empires income and expenses
- Added in the ability to take out loans (automatic if the player GC Reserves drops below zero)
- Made changes to the games tech tree
- Saves are now sorted by the last modified date
- Fixed multiple issues with multiplayer sync issues
- Improved AI tactics
- Added in a minesweeper mini game
- AI should be a bit more aggressive, as they will attack more often
- AI should now send out larger fleets while attacking, resulting in less failed offensives
- AI vs AI battles now finish quicker
- Added in an auto-scout feature, which will allow a fleet to be designated to scouting any new planets within range
- Added a tech queue system to the game, allowing a player to select a future tech and have its prerequisites automatically researched
- Fixed a bug that sometimes caused the AI battles to freeze late in the game
- Fixed some issues with diplomacy menu
- Fixed bugs with AI forgetting about some wars
- Fixed a few issues with ships disappearing
- Fixed a lot of bugs affecting multiplayer
- Fixed bugs with spies not informing the player of their actions
- Increased the cost of spies
Overall this is probably the most stable update in a while, as a lot of the new information systems added allowed for many small bugs to be found and fixed. All the extra play-testing also helped find many bugs that impacted the player late game. I would not say the game is going to be bug free, but overall it should work better than in the past. Multiplayer is also far more stable now than it used to be, even if it isn't exactly stable yet either due to some hard to find bugs that might be causing issues with ships disappearing in online games (SP seems to be solid based on play-testing).
